Britain Ready for Rails

MOSCOW () -- Britain is ready to help Russia build a high-speed railroad linking Moscow and St. Petersburg, a British official said Tuesday.

Howard Titherington, director of Britain's department of trade and industry, said Britain was wrapping up a deal for a $200 million credit toward the 650-kilometer line, whose cost is estimated at $5 billion, Interfax reported.

British firms were expected to participate in the design and construction of the passenger railroad, the agency said.
