Brazilian to Deportivo

MADRID () -- Spain's Deportivo Coruna have beaten Real Madrid in a battle to sign Brazilian Olympic midfielder Flavio Conceicao from Palmeiras.

Deportivo club president Augusto Lendoiro said Tuesday the deal would not cost more than $6.5 million despite a late offer from Real worth $7.0 million.

The 22-year-old is expected to sign Wednesday, joining compatriots Mauro Silva and Rivaldo and Brazilian-born Donato -- now a naturalized Spaniard -- at the Galician club. Deportivo has become a favorite destination for Brazilian players because of similarities between the regional Galician language and Portuguese.
