Xerox Signs St. Pete Pact

Rank Xerox and a former defense-industry manufacturer in St. Petersburg, Pyrometer, have signed a letter of intent on production of copiers under a Xerox license, local representatives of the companies said.

"We just signed a letter of intent implying such possibility, but neither the amount of investment nor concrete dates have been affirmed yet," said Sergei Novikov of the Xerox office in St. Petersburg.

He said Xerox does not anticipate major investment in the project. If a final deal is reached, he said, Xerox would provide licensing, install equipment and maintain technical control over production.

Novikov said Pyrometer is the parent company for some authorized Xerox dealers in Russia.

Formerly a manufacturer of aviation and aerospace electronics equipment, the St Petersburg company switched over to electronic office equipment in 1991.
