Second Cyprus Death

DHERINIA, Cyprus () -- Troops in the Turkish-occupied north of Cyprus killed one man and wounded two UN peacekeepers Wednesday when they opened fire on Greek Cypriot protesters storming the island's UN-patrolled buffer zone, UN sources said.

It was the second death along Cyprus' "Green Line" in four days and one of the worst scenes of violence since Turkey invaded the island's northern third in 1974 after a coup in Nicosia by the military then ruling Greece.

At least three Greek Cypriots were wounded in the shooting, hospital and police sources said.
