Power Plant Leak

KIEV () -- The reactor at the Khmelnitsky nuclear power plant was shut down after a leak in a turbine, an official said Friday.

"The leak was discovered during a routine check of the turbine's pipes. A water pipe to the turbine was leaking,'' Nuclear Ministry spokeswoman Tatyana Yagish said.

Water escaped from the system but it was not radioactive and did not pose any danger, she said.

The reactor will be restarted Tuesday. The Khmelnitsky nuclear power plant is located 260 kilometers west of Kiev.
