No Blow to Justice?

WASHINGTON () -- Computer hackers who altered the Justice Department's Internet home page last weekend did not get access to criminal files, U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno has said.

The unidentified hackers added swastikas, obscenities and a picture of Adolf Hitler to the department's page on the World Wide Web in an apparent protest against a law prohibiting transmission of sexually explicit material on the Internet.

The page was shut down until it could be restored. It has information about the department with links to pages on related topics such as the Violence Against Women Act. Reno said Thursday the department's web page (http://www.usdoj.gov) was separate from its other computer files.
