Jordan Unrest Spreads

AMMAN () -- Three days of violence sparked by a sharp rise in bread prices have intensified pressure on Jordan's prime minister to step down.

Political parties, trade unionists and some members of Parliament joined protesters Sunday in calls for Abdul-Karim Kabariti's resignation as the unrest spread to Amman, the Jordanian capital.

The protests broke out on Friday after Kabariti ordered bread prices to more than double. Forty people have been injured in clashes with authorities.

Kabariti ordered the price hike as part of economic reforms advocated by the International Monetary Fund.
