Far East Floods Kill 2

MOSCOW () -- Floods created by two weeks of heavy rainfall in Russia's Far East claimed another two lives and caused heavy damage, an official said Monday.

Flood waters were continuing to rise in rivers, killing two people since Sunday, said Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry spokeswoman Tatyana Timoshenkova.

The total number of victims since the floods started in early August was now four, Timoshenkova said. She did not know how they died.

After two weeks of torrential rains, the weather cleared up three days ago, but flooding continued and forecasters were expecting more rain in the next several days, she said.
