Fake Bomb in Metro

MOSCOW () -- A solid metal cylinder, found at 9 a.m. Monday morning in Kutuzovskaya metro station in Moscow and thought to be a bomb, was a fake, the city police and Federal Security Service officials said Monday.

"It was just laying on the platform and a military grenade ring popped out of it," said policeman Igor Zhitomirsky.

After a trained dog signaled the possible presence of explosives inside the object, it was submitted for expert evaluation to the Federal Security Service laboratories.

"The fake was clear almost by afternoon," said Andrei Kostrov, spokesman for the Federal Security Service. "Sometimes dogs are mistaken and however, there was a white powder in the object."
