Cinema Forum

MONTREAL () -- The Montreal Forum, abandoned this year after decades as home of the Montreal Canadiens, will be converted to an entertainment complex with 30 movie screens.

Canderel Properties Ltd. said Monday it has reached an agreement with the Canadiens to acquire the building, vacant since the NHL team moved into the new Molson Centre in March.

"I think we're happy with the agreement reached with Canderel," said Bernard Brisset, the hockey team's vice president of communications. "It was important for us that the property not be abandoned."

Daniel Peritz, Canderel's vice president of development, said the 7,000-seat complex could open late next year.
