Bite's Might Measured

NEW YORK () -- Ouch! A hungry T. rex could bite with a force equivalent to the weight of a small pickup truck, a study found.

That is surprisingly strong, even with everything scientists already knew about the fearsome dinosaur, one expert said.

The study supports the view that Tyrannosaurus rex hunted and attacked pre}l as most scientists believe, rather than just scavenging carcasses, said researcher Gregory Erickson.

No animal alive today bites with greater force than T. rex, Erickson, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of California at Berkeley, and co-authors from Stanford University reported in Thursday's issue of the journal Nature.
