Aeroflot Volume Up

MOSCOW () -- Russian flag carrier Aeroflot transported 1.7 million passengers and 40,000 tons of mail and freight in the first half of 1996, up from 1.4 million passengers and 28,000 tons in the year-earlier half, according company data released Tuesday.

State-owned Aeroflot operated 126 regular passenger and 14 cargo routes using 111 aircraft in 1995. In addition, the company leased 11 Western-made planes.

More than 20 percent of total turnover last year was accounted for by Boeing 767, Airbus A310 and Ilyushin Il-96-300 wide-body jets.
