ust a Flesh Wound

ATLANTA () -- A Georgia National Guardsman standing post near the Olympic Village at the Georgia Tech campus was slightly wounded by an apparently random shot fired into the air from an AK-47 assault weapon, the state Olympic Law Enforcement Command said Friday.

The guardsman, Thomas Bentley, 43, of Monroe, was treated at Georgia Baptist Hospital for a minor wound to the chest and released. He is assigned to the 178th Military Police unit of the guard.

"All indications are that it was a random shot,'' Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Buddy Nix said. "According to our firearms division, it could have been fired from up to a mile away.''
