Ukraine Bank Relents

KIEV () -- Ukraine's central bank Wednesday rescinded restrictions on banks from former-Soviet republics, but said it would toughen rules to ensure full disclosure of their transactions.

"We are fully restoring the market for karbovanets held by non-resident banks to what it was, before the restrictions were introduced on July 12," said Viktor Yushchenko, chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine.

"At the same time, there will be a more clear accounting procedure for operations and balances of nonresidents to make them more open."
