Shattering Miles

LAPPEENRANTA, Finland () -- Daniel Komen of Kenya shattered the world 2-mile record by almost 4 seconds Sunday, clocking 8 minutes, 3.54 seconds.

Ethiopia's Haile Gebrselassie set the old record of 8:07.46 last year.

Komen has shown excellent form recently. Six days earlier, he ran the third-fastest time in history at 5,000 meters with a time of 12:51.60 as he won at Stockholm's Olympic Stadium during the DN Galan Grand Prix meet. He did not, however, qualify for the Kenyan Olympic team, finishing fourth in the 5,000 at the Trials.
