Kyrgyz-Malay Accord

MOSCOW () -- Kyrgyz President Askar Akaev and visiting Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad have signed an accord on a gold-mining venture.

Officials said Malaysia's state mining company and Kyrgyzstan's state gold company, KyrgyzAltyn, will develop the Taldy-Vulak Levoberezhny deposit.

KyrgyzAltyn also said Wednesday it had signed a joint venture with Cameco Corp. of Canada. Called the Tien Shan Gold Co., the venture will be capitalized by reinvestment of profits from the partners' first joint venture, the Kumtor Gold Co.
