Woman jockey Heidi McNeich, 24, died Saturday after her mount, Little Cavalier, fell during a race at Warwick, 130 kilometers southwest of the Queensland capital of Brisbane.

A spokeswoman for Royal Brisbane Hospital said a second jockey, David Wilkes, died Sunday evening after emergency surgery had been performed earlier in the day. Wilkes had been injured after falling from his horse during a race in Toowoomba, 100 kilometers west of Brisbane.

"David was air-lifted from Toowoomba last night, surgery was performed this morning, he remained in critical condition and he deceased at 8 p.m.," the spokeswoman said.
