Irvin Trial Opens

DALLAS () -- Michael Irvin's trial for felony cocaine possession began with a police officer describing an array of illegal drugs he discovered March 4 in a hotel room occupied by the Dallas Cowboys' all-pro wide receiver, a former teammate and two topless dancers.

Matthew Drumm of the Irving Police Department said Tuesday he found several bags of cocaine and marijuana, pieces of rock cocaine and an assortment of straws, razor blades and cigarette papers when he and three other officers responded to a disturbance call at a hotel a few miles from the Cowboys' Valley Ranch headquarters.

Drumm also found Irvin and former Cowboys tight end Alfredo Roberts wearing only pants. He said the odor of marijuana smoke was "very strong" and described Irvin as glassy-eyed and "intoxicated on something."
