Georgia Court Sworn In

TBILISI, Georgia () -- Georgia's first Constitutional Court was sworn in Wednesday in a ceremony that was moved at the last minute when a major fire broke out in the Justice Ministry.

The court, created under the constitution adopted last fall in the former Soviet republic, is charged with making sure that laws correspond to the charter.

The cause of the fire Wednesday was unknown. It broke out shortly before President Eduard Shevardnadze was to arrive at the Justice Ministry for the ceremony.

The blaze destroyed the top two floors of the four-story Justice Ministry building before being put out by midday, Interfax said.
