Ex-Nazi Awaits Verdict

ROME () -- A military prosecutor Monday urged a three-judge panel to do its "moral" duty and convict a former SS captain of involvement in the 1944 massacre of 335 civilians in Rome.

Prosecutor Antonino Intelisano began final arguments in the trial of Erich Priebke, a former Nazi who says he was forced to help with the executions under shoot-or-be-shot orders.

The prosecution contends that Priebke could have disobeyed orders for the massacre, which was carried out to avenge a bombing a day earlier by resistance fighters that killed 32 Nazi soldiers in German-occupied Rome.
