Doctor Sentenced

PARIS () -- The late Fran?ois Mitterrand's former personal physician received a four-month suspended sentence Friday for a tell-all book about the ex-president's cancer.

Dr. Claude Gubler had faced up to a year in prison and 100,000 francs ($20,000) in fines for breaking confidentiality laws by writing "The Great Secret." The book told how Mitterrand for years concealed the prostate cancer that killed him Jan. 9.

Sales of the book, which hit bookstores and newsstands within a few weeks of Mitterrand's death at age 79, remain banned under Friday's ruling.

Olivier Orban, editor of the French publishing house Plon, and co-author Michel Gonod were also fined.
