Windies Elections

KINGSTON, Jamaica ( -- Jamaican businessman Pat Rousseau has been elected president of the West Indies Cricket Board of Control, or WICBC, in succession to Peter Short.

WICBC chief executive officer Stephen Camacho said Saturday that Rousseau was elected during the governing body's annual general meeting in Jamaica and will hold the post until 1998.

Short said earlier this year he would not seek re-election. Rousseau previously served the board as chairman of its marketing committee.

Camacho said the appointment of a West Indies manager, coach and captain for the forthcoming tour of Australia was deferred but an announcement would be made within 30 days.

Former West Indies captain Clive Lloyd and Malcolm Marshall, the most successful West Indies bowler in test cricket, have been strongly tipped to be named manager and coach respectively, with Courtney Walsh as captain.
