U.S. Primaries Finished

WASHINGTON () -- The four-month presidential primary season came to a close with Republican Senator Robert Dole claiming easy victories in New Jersey, Montana, New Mexico and Alabama. President Bill Clinton handily won the Democratic races in all four states.

Dole received more than three-quarters of the Republican vote Tuesday in Alabama, New Jersey and New Mexico and won six of every 10 votes in Montana. Clinton rounded up about 80 percent of the Democratic vote in Alabama and about 90 percent of the vote or more in the other three states.

Both men clinched their party nominations more than two months ago. They will officially claim the nominations at the parties' national conventions in August.
