Northern Floods

MURMANSK, Far North () -- Heavy rains and thawing snow have swollen rivers in northern Russia causing the worst floods in the region in more than 50 years, news reports said Monday.

Flood waters inundated parts of the city of Murmansk, 1,450 kilometers north of Moscow. The city dairy, warehouses and a number of businesses were under water. Heavy rains and thawing snows have resulted in the worst floods in the Murmansk area since 1942, Itar-Tass reported.
