Moskvich Gets Relief

The troubled Moscow automaker Moskvich will receive 100 million rubles from the government under a decree aimed at meeting state obligations for vouchers issued in 1991 and 1992 providing cars in lieu of cash.

The June 24 decree also requires the cabinet to examine possible tax exemptions and a loan for Moskvich, Interfax reported.

It also seeks funds to upgrade the automaker's plant, improve its financial standing by the end of the year 2000, and repay foreign debts incurred in Soviet times.
