Latvia Re-elects Leader

RIGA, Latvia () -- The president of the Baltic state of Latvia, Guntis Ulmanis, was re-elected for a second term by parliament Tuesday, and vowed to continue a strong pro-Western foreign policy.

Ulmanis, seen as the candidate who would most guarantee internal political stability, gained 53 votes in the 100-seat parliament.

He vowed to keep the country on track in efforts to get European Union and NATO entry and also emphasized he would work for better relations with Moscow.
