Just One Stroke Shy

MEMPHIS, Tennessee () -- John Cook won the St. Jude Classic by seven shots, missing a PGA Tour record by one stroke when his chip shot on the last hole bounced off the pin.

He closed with a 2-under-par 69 and finished with a four-round total 26-under 258, one stroke off the tour record low for 72 holes set by Mike Souchak at the 1955 Texas Open.

Cook won for the first time on the tour since capturing three tournaments in 1992. "I had one of those weeks where I hit the ball great," he said.

On Sunday, his final chance to tie the record came on the par-4 No. 18 when his chip from the rough from about 23 meters bounced off the pin.
