EU Blasts U.S. Bill

n BRUSSELS () -- The European Union, accusing the United States of trying to enforce its own laws abroad, reacted angrily Thursday to U.S. legislation imposing new sanctions against Libya and Iran.

The U.S. House of Representatives unanimously approved a bill Wednesday that would punish foreign companies that invest in the two nations, both accused of sponsoring terrorism.

Peter Guilford, trade spokesman for the 15-nation EU, said the EU, while agreeing with Washington's concerns about the two nations' support for terrorism, strongly opposes the U.S. bid to make its laws applicable to foreigners.
