Czechs Near Accord

PRAGUE () -- Czech coalition leaders, facing a parliamentary deadline next week, set about carving up a new minority government on Thursday after apparently agreeing a policy program.

Government spokesman Vadim Petrov said Prime Minister Vaclav Klaus would meet chairmen of the two junior coalition parties, the Christian Democrats and the Civic Democratic Alliance, for talks expected to last most of the day.

Thursday's talks marked the second stage of attempts by Klaus, Eastern Europe's last conservative prime minister, to recreate his three-party coalition which narrowly lost its majority in inconclusive elections May 31 to June 1.
