Britain Poll in May?

LONDON () -- Britain's next general election will be held in May, when tax cuts and improved economic prospects have had their full effect, Chancellor of the Exchequer, or finance minister, Kenneth Clarke said Thursday.

Clarke told the Independent newspaper in an interview that he thought the ruling Conservative Party, trailing badly in opinion polls, would win back the affection of voters once his economic policies had time to work.

He said the impact of tax cuts had started to be felt only over the past two months.
