Big Easy Crush

HARRISON, NewYork -- The Big Easy made it all seem so simple, a giant crushing the field of the Buick Classic like so many ants on the patio.

Ernie Els, the easygoing South African, was unmercifully hard on his competitors at the Westchester Country Club, posting an even-par 71 Sunday for a 271 total and eight-shot victory in the Buick Classic. He left everyone else fighting for second place.

"He made us all look like fools,'' said Craig Parry, one of four second-place finishers, along with Steve Elkington, Tom Lehman and Jeff Maggert.

"It's nice to know you're back,'' said Els, who hadn't won in the United States since the Byron Nelson Classic last May. "I was down in the dumps at Colonial -- almost finished last -- then two weeks later I'm winning.''
