Zulu Violence Worsens

DURBAN, South Africa -- President Nelson Mandela is extremely concerned at renewed violence in KwaZulu-Natal province and could send extra security forces if the situation worsens, a presidential spokesman said Sunday.

At least one woman was killed and eight people were wounded during and after a march by 7,000 Zulus aligned to the Zulu-based Inkatha Freedom Party in the KwaZulu-Natal port city of Durban on Saturday, police said.

But Inkatha said on Sunday party supporters had defied orders not to take part in the march.
