Stoners Punished

MOSCOW () -- The Russian Professional Football League has banned Krylya Sovietov from playing three home games in its Samara stadium after a mob of local fans stoned the visiting team's bus while the players were leaving the playing facility.

Following a May 8, 1-1 draw between Spartak Moscow and the home team, some 40 fans, upset over a questionable penalty kick awarded to the visitors, stoned Spartak's bus and threatened players and team officials.

Television footage taken from inside Spartak's bus showed players huddled in the aisle while several Samara fans chased after the vehicles, taunting the players inside and pelting the bus with stones and bottles.

The league has also fined Samara's president Boris Valkov 500,000 rubles for failing to provide sufficient security during and after the match.
