Russian Customs Seizes 2 Tons of Hash

Customs officials in northwestern Russia seized almost 2 tons of hashish hidden between the double walls of an ordinary container with alfalfa seeds, a news agency reported Sunday.

Customs officers inspecting the container, which was made of corrugated iron, noticed the difference in the number of curves on the inner and outer sides of the walls, Interfax said.

Suspecting foul play, the officers pried the walls open and discovered 1,739 kilograms of hashish inside.

The drug was packed in plastic and labeled as shampoo, indicating that it had been produced at a factory, Interfax reported. According to the report, the container was sent by an Afghan company to a firm in Holland.
