Resignation Demanded

BELGRADE, Yugoslavia () -- In a sign of a deepening rift in Yugoslavia's ruling elite, the national bank chief has demanded the resignation of the country's premier, media reported.

The independent Nasa Borba daily said Saturday that Serb-led Yugoslavia's National Bank Governor Dragoslav Avramovic demanded the resignation of Premier Radoje Kontic following a dispute between the two over negotiations with the International Monetary Fund.

The rift, which started after the failed talks with the IMF at beginning of April, takes place amid increasing labor unrest over salaries and falling living standards.
