Powell Upset in Jump

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Nelson Ferreira leaped a personal best 8.32 meters to upset American favorite and world record holder Mike Powell in the long jump at the Brazilian Grand Prix athletics meet.

A crowd Saturday gave Ferreira a standing ovation to congratulate the local for beating Powell by 18 centimeters.

Gwen Torrence won the women's 100-meters and Michael Johnson the men's 200 as Americans won seven event.
