Oil Pipeline Blazes

KIEV, Ukraine -- One villager was seriously injured and six houses burned to the ground in an oil pipeline fire in eastern Ukraine, officials said Sunday.

The blaze broke out Saturday after about 500 tons of oil leaked from a ruptured pipeline in the Lugansk region, near the village of Nizhneye. The cause of the blaze was not immediately known.

The fire engulfed and completely destroyed one village street with six households before firefighters managed to contain it. A 56-year-old man was severely burned and taken to a hospital, where his condition was described as grave.
