Marine Crash Kills 14

CAMP LEJEUNE, North Carolina () --Two U.S. Marine helicopters collided on a nighttime exercise during massive joint U.S. and British war games, killing 14 of the 16 Marines on the aircraft, military officials said.

A two-man Cobra attack helicopter and a CH-46 Sea Knight troop carrier with 14 people aboard went down Friday in a heavily wooded swamp at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, during an amphibious assault exercise around 2 a.m.

Military officials at the Pentagon said the pilot of the big CH-46 was critically injured in the crash but the co-pilot escaped with only cuts and bruises.

No British forces were involved in the accident.
