Leaving Cuba

SYDNEY, Australia ( -- Australian marathon swimmer Susie Maroney has conquered the English Channel and set four world records, including the fastest around New York's Manhattan Island.

Now Maroney, 21, wants to attempt a swim from Cuba to Florida, beginning on June 4. Her parents say Cuban President Fidel Castro will be on the beach to biddher farewell when she leaves.

She hopes to complete the swim in about 50 hours. She will have no sleep, no rest and will take nourishment only as she swims.

About a dozen people have attempted the 180-kilometer swim between Cuba and the Florida Keys, but all have failed.
