Georgia Vineyards Hit

TBILISI, Georgia () -- A heavy hailstorm accompanied by torrential rains heavily damaged vineyards in eastern Georgian over the past three days, a news agency reported Tuesday.

Up to four-fifths of saplings were damaged in areas hit by the storm, including the top wine-producing villages of Gurdjzhanni and Signakhki, Itar-Tass reported.

Georgian wine production has been hurt repeatedly in the past few years by the country's economic troubles and difficulties with shipments stemming from the war in nearby Chechnya.
