Chinese Soccer Police

BEIJING () -- Beijing authorities plan to deploy 6,000 police in the stadium and surrounding streets when England play China in the Workers' Stadium, Beijing next week.

A special section of the stands will be allocated to the hundreds of English fans expected to come to China for the game, but officials said Wednesday that they did not expect trouble.

"The number of police in the Chinese and foreign sections will be the same," said a spokesman, adding that security checkpoints would be set up at the stadium to search for weapons.

The England team's arrival in Beijing is eagerly awaited by China's army of soccer fans, many of whom are avid fans and follow the careers of English footballers even more closely than those of Chinese players.

Frazier Mowes Toe

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Former heavyweight champion Joe Frazier was hospitalized after cutting his toe with a lawn mower.

Frazier, 51, was listed in serious condition at Thomas Jefferson University Medical Center with a foot injury, a hospital spokeswoman said Tuesday. She said other information about the fighter was withheld at the family's request.

His daughter, Natasha, said Frazier had just returned from a book tour and was cutting grass Sunday night at the property he owns in Chester County when he stumbled, apparently on a stone in the grass.
