China to Profit on Beef

BEIJING () -- China is hoping to profit from Britain's "mad cow" disease with increased beef exports, the official China Daily's Business Weekly reported Sunday.

Bans on British beef and cattle mean greater opportunities for China, the world's third-largest beef producer, the report said.

It plans to sell 120,000 head of live cattle and 10,000 tons of frozen beef to Hong Kong this year, where sales of beef products have dropped 50 percent since Britain's "mad cow" news broke.
