China Piracy Talks

BEIJING () -- Preferring negotiations to threats of sanctions, China urged the United States Thursday not to inject politics into next week's talks on their dispute over copyright piracy.

The Clinton administration announced Wednesday that trade negotiator Lee Sands will return to Beijing on June 6 through June 7 to assess China's progress in halting what Washington says is rampant piracy of U.S. videos, music and computer software.

The talks will be the first face-to-face meeting in more than two weeks. Since then, Washington threatened to place punitive tariffs on $2 billion in Chinese imports if Beijing did not stop the piracy.
