30 Tons Acid Dropped

MOSCOW -- Some 30 tons of sulfuric acid spilled from a rusted tank at the Bryansk-2 railroad station southwest of Moscow, local civil defense authorities told Interfax.

No one was hurt in the Tuesday accident. The poisonous cloud was prevented from spreading to residential areas, and residents received warnings about the danger, the agency reported.

A crew of 127 workers was working to collect the acid in pits near the railroad track, the agency reported.
