Soccer Hero Gets Bal

LONDON -- English soccer hero Geoff Hurst is to be presented with the long-lost ball from the 1966 World Cup final victory against Germany, which he helped seal with a hat-trick of goals.

"I'm extremely excited, I cannot wait to get it back," Hurst told the Sun tabloid after a Duesseldorf businessman offered to give him the souvenir ball.

The soccer magazine Total Football launched a hunt for the ball, said to have been taken at the end of the match by German player Helmut Haller.

Haller, 56, now a restaurateur, said the ball disappeared within weeks of the final after shopkeepers in his home city of Augsburg asked to put it on display.

"It was passed from shop to shop and I suppose somebody just kept it as a souvenir," he told the paper.
