Slovakia Speech Law

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia () -- Slovakia's chances for quick membership in the European Union may be hurt by new legislation that critics say would limit free speech and public assemblies.

The new legislation, approved by parliament two weeks ago, bans rallies organized to subvert the country's constitutional system, territorial integrity or defenses.

Another clause says any Slovak citizen who intentionally spreads abroad false information damaging Slovakia's interests can be fined or imprisoned for up to two years.
