Pol Pot Said Dying

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia -- Cambodians rejoiced Tuesday over a report from their king that Pol Pot, the Khmer Rouge chief whose reign of terror left more than 1 million people dead from 1975 to 1978, may be terminally ill and near death.

"His death 10 times over will not equal his criminal acts against humanity, the nation and the people," said the Information Ministry's spokesman, Sieng Lapresse.

King Norodom Sihanouk, in Paris for an official visit, told France-Info Radio Monday he thought the Communist Khmer Rouge insurgency would collapse with the death of its leader, who is believed to be in his 60s.
