Pilots' Trial Delayed

KINSHASA, Zaire () -- The trial of two Russian pilots whose plane crashed and killed more than 300 people in a Zaire market was adjourned has been adjourned for lack of a proper interpreter.

The judge set a further hearing for April 8 when he hopes the Zaire foreign ministry will find a competent interpreter to replace the one from the Russian embassy, a local Zairean employee.

"The interpreter is out of his depth. Everyone is aware of it," said prosecutor Mukenge Bisumbule.

Nicolai Kazarine and Andrei Gouscov have been charged with manslaughter for the crash of their Antonov 32 cargo plane which exploded after crashing in the capital Kinshasa shortly after takeoff Jan. 8.
