Mavrodi in, Yeltsin Paid

MOSCOW () -- MMM investment company chief Sergei Mavrodi has submitted to the Central Election Commission lists with more than 1 million signatures in support of his candidacy for president, Interfax reported Friday.

The signatures, raised in 57 Russian regions, were accompanied by Mavrodi's 1994-95 income statement, the agency reported.

The CEC also provided 150 million rubles each (about $30,000) for previously registered candidates President Boris Yeltsin and LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky. The commission has 4 billion rubles to distribute among candidates for campaign financing. Earlier, it granted 150 million rubles to Communist leader Gennady Zyuganov.
