Georgia Bridge Blast

TBILISI, Georgia -- A bridge in southeastern Georgia that is part of a key transport corridor to Armenia was blown up early Monday, a spokesman for the Georgian Interior Ministry said.

The small bridge crossed the Khrami River about 30 kilometers south of Tbilisi, capital of the former Soviet republic in the Caucasus Mountains.

It was not known who destroyed the bridge, and there were no casualties, said Interior Ministry spokesman Valerian Gogolashvili. But transport and energy links to Armenia are regularly sabotaged in the region. The acts are believed to be committed by Azerbaijanis, the dominant ethnic group there.
